Shaun Grove is no stranger to wearing different hats. Over his 47-year journey, he’s led an exciting life as a semi-professional football player, a seasoned attorney, a dedicated FBI agent, and now, the president of Club Pilates and Rumble Boxing. His secret? A strong dedication to his goals and a routine that keeps him motivated and focused.
“I’ve always looked at myself as being ‘of service’ to something greater than myself. This mindset has carried over into my leadership roles at Club Pilates and Rumble now,” says Grove. His structured routine comprises seven key steps that help him maintain his motivation and goal-oriented approach each day.
1. Waking Up Early
Grove’s day begins at 6 a.m. sharp. Early rising, he says, provides the opportunity to take full advantage of the day while also bolstering confidence and reducing stress. Studies from The National Sleep Foundation suggest that waking up early can improve mental health and provide more access to daylight, a natural mood booster.
2. Drinking Plenty of Water
Hydration is another crucial element of Grove’s routine. He ensures he drinks water the first thing after waking up. This aligns with the National Academy of Medicine’s recommendation for men and women to consume about 125 ounces and 91 ounces of water daily, respectively.
3. Stretching and Meditating
After hydration, Grove spends 15 to 20 minutes on stretching, breathing, and meditating. “It helps wake my body up, and puts me in a positive mindset,” he shares. Stretching is known to improve blood flow, posture, flexibility, and injury prevention.
While most of his routine revolves around his physical health, Grove is also mindful of his mental well-being. He emphasizes taking mental health breaks and spending time with loved ones. “Overworking and burnout can lead to high levels of stress, anxiety, exhaustion, worsened job performance, and even depression. It’s important to take a beat when you need it,” Grove advises.
Finally, Grove wraps up his day with a period of self-reflection and planning for the next day. This allows him to process and resolve any business issues or challenges, ensuring that no negativity is carried over to the next day.
Shaun Grove’s journey shows us that success isn’t only about being an entrepreneur, an athlete, or working for the government. It’s about setting a routine that prioritizes time for yourself and the things that matter to you. In doing so, you put yourself on the right track to achieving your goals.
